The plot on which the new bulk cargo terminal was built is part of the existing port area. It is located on the right bank of the Vlaška canal, and has an area of approx. 240.000 m². The location of this terminal, at the edge of the port, far from the city of Ploče, guarantees a completely negligible impact on the urban area in an ecological sense. It is important to emphasize that the highest environmental standards will be applied in handling bulk cargo in accordance with the World Bank guidelines. Apart from eliminating possible dust in the city of Ploče during unfavorable winds, this position will also enable a much greater capacity to accept bulk loads and improve the transverse technology. Likewise, the location allows for better access from the sea and the mainland.

Luka Ploče d.d. is the main operator in the transshipment of goods in the port area, while bulk cargo is the backbone of the port´s traffic. The Government of the Republic of Croatia provided support for the construction of the new terminal for bulk cargo and financed works on infrastructure, and Luka Ploče d.d. was granted a concession for the installation of technological equipment and devices and the use of terminals. A trial run of the terminal with installed equipment is underway.

The project will be finished by mid-2019.
